What resonates for me is the assertion about the real strength in American education is the value of the individual and the power of independence. I believe we need to see better test scores, but I worry about too much sacrifice in the name of that noble cause.

Last night as I was reading (I've just started the second chapter)the idea that resonated with me was the idea that the achievement gap really has one cause: poverty. If this is the case, why am I working so hard to close the gap? Of course, the 90/90/90 research comes to mind... Definitely an interesting question - since I believe that both are true and correct. The gap is caused by poverty, but it can be closed by other means.
ReplyDeleteGreat point!. Perhaps the cause is known, but let us not use the cause as an excuse to not be the cure!
